The Language Center provides life-changing learning support and instruction for students with diagnosed learning differences and/or attention deficit disorder. These students have often struggled to find success in the classroom due to challengesin reading fluency and comprehension, written expression, processing speed, and ability to focus. With the support of the Orton-Gillingham trained Language Center staff, however, students in this program are able to succeed at the level of their true ability and often become highly successful professionals as adults. The current Language Center facility is inadequate for several reasons. The age and condition of the building makes it difficult to maintain adequate climate control, and the size of the building does not allow for expansion of the program or addition of other student support services. Through the Expansion of Excellence Campaign, a different building on campus, currently used for 4-year-olds classrooms, will be renovated to create an expanded and improved Language and Student Support Center.
